Salcombe Retreat borders National Trust Land. It is in a glorious location having both country and coastal views. Soar Mill Cove itself with its sandy beach surrounded by steep cliffs is within easy walking distance of the lodge. The coastal path is accessible, on foot, from Salcombe Retreat and the popular boating hamlet of Salcombe is within easy driving distance.

The Soar Mill Cove a luxury 4* Hotel opens its doors to non residents for meals including gourmet evening meals with a very impressive wine list is within easy walking distance of the property (www.soarmillcove.co.uk). The more modest Port Light Hotel is also situated on the coastal path and is within walking distance of the property, it offers lunch and evening meals with a good children's menu. You would need a torch in the dark to make your way back along the cliff path!

It is also possible to walk to South Sands, where you will find a beach and boating facilities which you can hire or register for the RYA course of your choice. There is also a ferry to Salcombe from South Sands. This walk should only be undertaken if you have the stamina to walk back!

The heart of Salcombe is within 15 minutes drive from the Lodge. It is therefore absolutely possible to enjoy everything that it has to offer. The beaches on the East Portlemouth side of the estuary are beautiful and easily accessed from the regular ferry that leaves from the Town. There is the full range of RYA courses, both sailing and power boating, available locally. You could have water skiing or wakeboarding lessons. Boat moorings are available for those that need them as are launching and retrieval facilities from the newly refurbished Boat Park.
